Day 2 – Moving Mountains

Students from Boston College take charcoal samples for palaeo-environmental analysis

Day two and already significant finds are being made. The progress is incredible and all due to the 30 hardworking participants of this years Irish Archaeological Field School. The post pad in Cutting 2 is associated with a heavily mortared area that could be a floor surface. In Cutting 1 the team still struggle with an intractable stoney layers. Cutting 3 extends into what we hope will be the monk’s kitchen garden. We may already be near the bottom of that cutting.
