Dave Broderick examines the medieval roof tile he found in Cutting 3

In a day that saw mixed weather the team soldiered on and made some key discoveries. In Cutting 3 a medieval roof tile was found in the fill of a ditch, The fill was so rich that we decided to fine sieve it for small bones, cereal and pottery fragments. Meanwhile, samples from the fill were processed for environmental evidence by two IAFS field school participants Lucas and Jessi. The site is drawing many visitors (all are welcome). For the last tea break three of the team had to make their farewells and were presented with a cake that we all enjoyed. Good luck to them.

Clare and Nóra sieve a rich medieval habitation layer for small bones and pottery.

Katie, Miles and Molly receive a grand tour of the site from Rosanne.
