Worked moved indoors as the weather worsened. We started the numbering of the finds and prepared to start on the finds illustrations. We had a visit from archaeologist Kieran Campbell who gave an impromptu talk to the group on the Bective Tiles. We have 14th, 15th and 16th century tiles but nothing from the 13th century. There are a number of designs new to Ireland which suggest that there might have been a tile kiln nearby. Watch the blog for Kieran’s preliminary tile report to be uploaded soon. We welcomed Laura Claffey from the National Monuments Service. She will spend a week at Bective Abbey. We also welcomed the distinguished visitors Paul Walsh, Michael Moore and Claire Breen from the Archaeological Survey of Ireland.

Tile expert Kieran Campbell discusses the finer points of tile illustration with Michael Duffy, archaeologist and illustrator. Michael’s illustrations can be viewed at http://michaelduffyillustration.com/index.html
